Dirk Nowitzki out with right knee swelling vs. Timberwolves

Nowitzki won't play on Wednesday and Raymond Felton will also sit with an eye injury.

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

After tying a season-high with 31 points on Monday, Dirk Nowitzki will sit out with swelling in his right knee in Wednesday's home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to Rick Carlisle at the Mavs' morning shootaround.

Given the opponent and the extra overtime minutes last game, the situation makes sense for Dirk to rest, even if it's not serious. Rick Carlisle called Dirk's long-term status "unknown," which is slightly worrisome, and said that he did not take part in shootaround. However, there's no real cause for alarm yet.

Also out against Minnesota is Raymond Felton, who suffered an eye injury in the closing seconds of regulation. This is the first game Felton has missed the entire season and the fourth time Dirk will sit down during a game.

My guess is that the Mavericks start Charlie Villanueva in place of Dirk, but Chandler Parsons will definitely get extended minutes playing power forward, giving him extra opportunities to run the offense.

UPDATE: Zaza Pachulia is also questionable.
