Kevin Durant got 99 meetings and the Mavericks ain't one

Dallas doesn't even make second cut.

Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Kevin Durant will not meet with the Mavericksper The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski. Durant will meet with six teams on July 1 in New York -- the Warriors, Spurs, Thunder, Heat, Celtics and Clippers -- and the Mavericks' top plan clearly won't come to fruition.

Wojnarowski also has a secondary list of teams who have interest in Durant, saying they could still potentially gain audience with Durant before he makes his decision. Those teams are the Nuggets, Knicks, Lakers, Rockets and Wizards. Not listed is the Mavericks, as you can see. That's right: the Nuggets, Lakers and Knicks reportedly have a better chance to get a meeting with Kevin Durant than the Mavericks.

Oh man. Ohhhhh man.

There's absolutely no reason for Dallas to believe they could sign Durant, mind you. I'm sure they know that, even as he's apparently the very top option this year. After all, Mark Cuban publicly dissed Durant's costar Russell Westbrook, leading to a public rebuke of Cuban by Durant when he called him "a idiot" repeatedly after that game.

But jeez, OK, they're not just not getting a meeting but also not even being honored as a team that is "interested" by the top NBA reporter? That's not a great look.

Oh well. This isn't actually as big of a deal as I'm making it, I don't think. There's still reasons to be optimistic about this summer. But ... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
