The Mavericks will trade Jeremy Evans to the Indiana Pacers, per report

Evans had to be dumped to sign Dirk Nowitzki to his new contract.

The Mavericks will send Jeremy Evans to the Pacers along with cash, according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski, which will free up the room they need to re-sign Dirk Nowitzki to a two-year, $40 million contract.

Yesterday, we discussed why the Mavericks would have to deal Evans. Although there were other options, trading or waiving Evans was the easiest one. Dallas is also expected to waive JaVale McGee's contract, which is non-guaranteed until July 12.

Dallas liked Evans, which is why they gave him a two-year guaranteed deal in the first place. However, he was on the outside looking in all season and would have likely be in a similar role this year, even if he was more comfortable on the perimeter like the Mavericks tried to help him become. In Indiana, Evans could have a chance to play a bigger role, which is great for him and his career.

Either way, it was a move of necessity for Dallas, and likely one they only did because they had to.
