Dirk Nowitzki isn’t like other superstars. While he has the accolades, records, and hardware that make him an NBA legend, one thing sets him apart from his peers: Nowitzki refuses to take himself too seriously. In fact, he might be the most self-deprecating player in the league. His reaction to a play in a preseason win over the Orlando Magic perfectly illustrates that.
Early in the first quarter, Nowitzki was peddling back on defense. The Magic had just secured a rebound and were looking to push. Then, out of nowhere, the Big German trips and falls with no one around him. While any other player might be embarrassed by the sure-to-be-viral nature of the incident, Nowitzki embraced it, tweeting this out the following morning:
Timber!!!!! https://t.co/sAdIluO10n

Dirk’s going down. He’s yelling timber! Okay, that was bad. Sorry for that.
You didn’t another reason to love Dirk but he gave you one anyway. It’s what sets him apart. It’s what makes him Dirk Nowitzki.
