WHO: Dallas Mavericks vs. Denver Nuggets
WHAT: Last home game of the season!
WHERE: American Airlines Center, Dallas, TX
HOW: TXA21 or NBA League Pass
THE STORY: So, this is it. Tonight is the last home game of season for the Dallas Mavericks. After this, there’s only one more game to play. There won’t be a playoff appearance for only the second time since Mark Cuban bought the team. It’s not the ending anyone hoped for but it’s the reality we must face.
While neither the visiting Denver Nuggets nor the Mavs have anything to play for tonight, the game isn’t without note. Since it’s fan appreciation night, those in attendance and watching at home can expect to see minutes from all the regular starters and role players, barring injury. Fans can also expect something out of the ordinary as well.
If you haven’t heard, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will be suited up and sitting on the Mavs bench for the game as the team honors him in their own way. Everything said up until now indicates that Romo won’t get in the game but his presence gives the fans something to cheer about. I imagine more than once a “Ro-mo” chant breaks out in the American Airlines Center.
While Romo in being in the building will surly get the fans out of their seats, the night will be bittersweet. This is it for the Mavs. There is no tomorrow, just a long summer. But the team is set up better for the future now than it has been in recent memory. At the very least, that should make the summer seem a little shorter.
Here’s to next season.
In honor of Tony Romo, here’s a musical selection to get you ready for the game.
Maybe you’ll hear this in the arena too...
