NBA: Dallas Mavericks at Memphis Grizzlies Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

It’s been a wild last night in the NBA, and I mostly mean that in the sense that I’ve been talking trash with Sactown Royalty on Twitter during Lottery Watch tonight.

Fortunately, even though the Mavericks managed to win, the Pelicans also managed to beat the Trail Blazers tonight, which avoids a tie and puts the Mavs in sole possession of the 9th best chance in the NBA Draft Lottery on May 16. Thanks, Pellies!

This is such a strange situation for the Mavericks and for us as fans, who are so used to above .500 seasons and getting to watch at least four and usually five or more playoff games at this point in the year. It’s strange to be writing about the lottery and not the Spurs or Rockets or Dirk getting ready to go all PLAYOFF DIRK or some other fun story like that.

But, as has been the theme this season, the team is getting younger and times, they are a changing. For those of you who are new to the draft lottery (like me!) we are going to have some posts by people smarter than me to catch you up on all things draft coming up soon enough.
