Because well duh.

As you may or may not have known, tonight was the NBA’s first stab at an award show, complete with a red carpet, a host (Drake), and a musical interlude (Nicki Minaj). Announced were many of the normal NBA awards you would expect—MVP, Rookie of the Year, etc.

But also announced was an award that, I confess, I didn’t even know what a thing. That award is the Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award, and this year the best teammate of all time finally won the award. That’s right, Dirk Nowitzki, the big German himself, was finally recognized for being the great teammate that he has always been.

The most fitting part was that Vince Carter, a former teammate of Dirk’s, got to present him with the award. Dirk, being the king of self-deprecating humor, pointing out that he bets none of his teammates would’ve voted for him. But we know better.

Oh and the best part: at the end of his acceptance speech, Dirk said he hopes to play “a couple more years.”

Dirk forever.
