Late Wednesday afternoon the Mavericks announced they have requested waivers on Ding Yanyuhang. He only played one preseason game with the Mavs before being dropped by the team.
During the Mavs game in Shenzhen Ding played 9 minutes going 0-2 from the field and hitting one of his two free throws, sending the Chinese fans into a roar. Part of the reason for signing Ding was to excite the team’s Chinese fan base before heading on their preseason trip to China.
Last season Ding won his second CBA MVP award in a row for the Shandong Golden Stars. He averaged 26 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game in 45 games. During the summer league Ding played with the Mavericks in Las Vegas and Orlando, but injuries kept him from playing more during the preseason.
Frisco is where Ding is likely to play his basketball this season with the Texas Legends according to Eddie Sefko.
The Mavericks' waiving of Ding Yanyuhang was expected. He also is expected to sign an exhibit 10 contract that will place him in Frisco with the Legends, per Rick Carlisle before the team returned from China.

Ding was never expected to make the Mavericks roster out of camp, but some time in the G-League could be just what he needs. The Legends are getting another interesting player for their roster this season making them an intriguing team to keep up with this season.
