According to sources, aka the NBA and the Dallas Mavericks, Luka Doncic has been named the Western Conference Rookie of the month.

The press release notes the following statistical points to back the selection of Doncic:

  • He’s averaged 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.1 steals in just over 33 minutes per game. Doncic is shooting 44% from the field over all, 38% from three, and 79% from the free throw line. His points per game average lead the Mavericks while his rebounding and assist averages are each second on the team.
  • The Mavericks have opened up the season with an 8-2 home record, their best home start since the 2013-14 season.
  • League-wide, Doncic is first among rookies in scoring, fourth in rebounding, second in assists. second in steals, first in minutes, and fifth in three point shooting percentage.

Doncic becomes the 6th Maverick to be selected rookie of the month since the Mavericks joined the NBA, joining Mark Aguirre, Jay Vincent, Jason Kidd, Devin Harris, and Yogi Ferrell.

Though Doncic’s numbers slipped slightly following the Los Angeles Laker game, for most of the opening quarter of the NBA season, he posted numbers which put him in company with various NBA legends.

Doncic came to the Mavericks via a draft day trade with the Atlanta Hawks for rookie Trae Young, who won the award for the Eastern conference.

This is the first of many accolades for Doncic with the Mavericks.
