GAME THREAD: Playoffs, Day 3

New, comments

Size does, in fact, matter

NBA: Playoffs-Miami Heat at Philadelphia 76ers Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

WHO: Heat, Sixers, Spurs, and Warriors

WHAT: Round one, game two (for some teams)

WHERE: Philadelphia, PA; San Francisco, CA

WHEN: 7:00 p.m. CT, 9:30 p.m. CT

HOW: TNT

THE STORY: The pace slows down a bit after the opening flurry. The NBA really likes to get as many games as possible on in front of a national audience with little overlap. That means the typical every-other-day format we see later in the playoffs is essentially thrown out the window.

Both the Sixers and Warriors will be trying to gain a 2-0 lead over the Heat and Spurs, respectively. Washington, Toronto, Portland, and New Orleans get an additional day off.

Without major adjustments, both series might already be decided. The Sixers were dominant offensively without Joel Embiid, hitting nearly 65% of their three point looks. The Warriors methodically rolled over an outmatched Spurs team, using a big starting line up they had not played all year.

Both the Sixers and the Warriors showed that length, particularly perimeter length, is a key component in their game one playoff success.
