Per Marc Stein of the New York Times, the Dallas Mavericks have officially signed DeAndre Jordan. Music to our collective ears.
The summer of 2015 is pretty much burned in all of our brains for eternity, as the Mavs became the laughing stock of NBA social media for a strange emoji war, Clippers players trapping DeAndre in his house, Mark Cuban randomly driving around Houston, and ultimately Jordan taking back a promise to join Chandler Parsons’ Dallas Mavericks.
Doesn’t that all seem like a lifetime ago now? The Clippers have moved on from that whole team. And the Mavs ultimately moved on from Parsons and are now attempting to win with a young core of Dennis Smith Jr. and Luka Doncic after a stunning draft night trade. Dirk is still here. And Dallas had their choice of centers when free agency started. Rather than wait it out to see if they could get a bargain, they simply paid Jordan’s price and moved on with free agency — a refreshing change from seasons’ past when they’ve been caught trying to get too cute.
DeAndre Jordan will be the best center the Mavericks have had since Tyson Chandler, and I, for one, am ready to forgive. Let’s have some fun this season, guys.
