Twice now!

For the second straight month, Dallas Mavericks forward Luka Doncic is the NBA Western Conference’s Rookie of the Month. He’s not just a league leader in All-Star voting, folks!

After starting the season shooting flames from his hands, Doncic managed to take scoring to another level in December, scoring 20 or more points in 10 of 15 games, including a pair of performances where he topped 30 points.

I could list out the array of stats and part of me really wants to (Seven threes in a game! That was wild!). But the fact is we’re not even half way through the season and I’m running out of ways to describe how freaking awesome Luka Doncic is.

The scoring is what stands out, despite his pace with rebounds and assists, because how he’s scoring is hard. He’s getting to the line, he’s hitting threes, and scoring on drives. There’s very little in the office for Doncic that’s coming off of easy plays, like back cuts or as the roll guy in a pick and roll. There’s a lot of room for improvement.

That’s scary. And awesome. The Rookie of the Month awards should continue for Doncic and that may well continue to a Rookie of the Year award.

Enjoy the ride. And vote for him as an All Star.
