Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki passes Wilt Chamberlain on the NBA All-Time Scoring list

The Big German is now number 6.

On Monday night at home against the New Orleans Pelicans, one Dirk Nowitzki achieved a season milestone: passing Wilt Chamberlain on the NBA All-Time scoring list to solidify himself in sixth place. He almost had it on Saturday evening against the Cavaliers, but was thwarted in the fourth quarter just four points shy.

Here’s the list as it stands now:

  1. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
  2. Karl Malone
  3. Kobe Bryant
  4. LeBron James
  5. Michael Jordan
  6. Dirk Nowitzki
  7. Wilt Chamberlain

This has been a milestone we’ve all been hoping for this season, Dirk’s probable final one — and especially nice that it happened at home.

Once it became apparent that the Mavs weren’t going to make the playoffs (and, perhaps, would be better off losing some games), it only felt fitting that we all continued to root for Dirk to have as much personal success as he could to allow him to go out on at least a personal high.

The Big German has around 872 points to go to catch Michael Jordan. I mean — seems totally doable, doesn’t it?

Congratulations, Dirk. We love you forever.
