WHO: Mavericks CEO Cynt Marshall and the other lottery teams’ representatives
WHAT: The 2019 NBA Draft Lottery
WHERE: Chicago, IL
WHEN: 6:30 p.m. CT
HOW: ESPN or WatchESPN
THE STORY: Dallas Mavericks CEO Cynt Marshall will represent the team as the Mavericks set themselves up for yet another year of the draft lottery. This year, thanks to tiebreakers and new lottery odds, the Mavericks will have a 26.3 percent chance at a top 4 pick and a 6.0 percent chance at the number one pick. As per most years, the most likely result has them outside the top 5, conveying their first round pick to the Atlanta Hawks as part of the 2018 draft night deal for Luka Doncic.
No matter where the ping pong balls fall, the Mavericks have honestly already won. A number one pick means Zion Williamson and an immediate shot at the playoffs. A top 4 pick would mean the Mavericks keep their pick and either take a still great player or have trade leverage if they want to use it. And a finish in the back half of the top 10 means they convey the pick to Atlanta and still have Luka and Kristaps. So. Seems fine no matter what.
Let’s. Go. Number. One.
