Mavericks sign guard Dakota Mathias to training camp roster

Dallas adds a shooter to compete for that 15th spot.

The Dallas Mavericks signed Dakota Mathias to a non-guaranteed deal. This deal will likely just be for duration of training camp.

Mathias is listed at 6’4” 200 lbs and made a reputation at Purdue as a 3 and D player. In his four years at Purdue he graduated with the record for most three pointers made (250) and games played (141).

He put up his best shooting numbers in his junior and senior seasons where he shot 45.3% on 4.5 attempts and 46.6 percent on 5.6 attempts respectively. Mathias made the Big Ten All-Defensive team in both his junior and senior seasons.

During this summer league Mathias played with the five games with the Lakers and put up fairly unimpressive stats: 5.6 points on 37 percent shooting in 19.6 minutes per game.

His first and only professional experience came with Divina Seguros Joventut, a team in Spain’s top league where RIcky Rubio played his first professional basketball. Mathias played 12 games for Joventut before suffering an ankle injury and being released.

A team can never have enough shooting but taking a training camp flyer on a shooter like Mathias won’t have the fanbase yelling “THIS LEAGUE.” Mathias should still prove a solid training camp pick up.
