It’s the third episode of Kirk Your Enthusiasm, this time with Seth Partnow (@Seth Partnow) of The Athletic. If the pod isn’t regularly populating your mobile device, go to one of the links below and subscribe! Also rate and review if you have a chance!

If you don’t know Seth, he’s a former lawyer, turned founder of Nylon Calculus (one of the earliest data nerd basketball sites on the internet), turned NBA front office employee off the Milwaukee Bucks where he headed up their data team. I recommend checking out the episode of the Game Theory Podcast with Sam Vecenie, where Seth walks through his professional journey and why he came back to the media.

Seth joined me to talk a lot of nitty-gritty Maverick stuff, including but not limited to: how good Luka Doncic is, the small sample size of Kristaps Porzingis, Dallas betting big on a number of players with limited data sets, and where the Mavericks fit into the NBA’s evolution of analytics. We also round out the pod talking about trends he thinks we may see. which devolved into a discussion of the defense reacting to the offense I found interesting. There’s also some talk about a cool Tom Haberstroh article which I went and found after we finished talking that’s right here for you to read.
