Friday morning I received a message from my long time internet friend Ian Levy of Fansided: “I thought you might like seeing this” and a link:

“How Luka Doncic saved my life” opened on my browser but I didn’t read it immediately. Before lunch I made time and settled in to read. Ten minutes later, I’d finished Collin’s moving story and started sending it to everyone I knew. Within a few hours, Collin’s story of loss and perseverance with a hint of basketball as an anchor somehow filtered up to traditional media, then Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, the Dallas Mavericks twitter account, and overnight, Luka Doncic himself.
If you haven’t taken the time to read Collin’s story, do so now. It’ll be imperative to understanding our conversation with Collin: how the piece came together, where he is now on his journey with sobriety, as well as what he thinks about these Mavericks.

I’m still not sure if I was the right person to talk to Collin and ask these questions, but I’ve wanted to talk with him and share how much I value he and his brother’s story. Sports is the vehicle through which so much is possible.
