Luka Doncic earns a 94 rating in NBA 2k21

The Mavericks young superstar is properly respected in the latest installment of the long running NBA video game franchise.

2k Games

We’ve already gotten a glimpse at what Luka Doncic will look like in NBA 2k21 running on a PlayStation 5 and now this week 2k Games has started revealing player ratings for some of the biggest names in the sport, including Doncic.

Doncic, entering his third season and coming off the youngest All-NBA First Team selection in over 20 years, has been given a 94 rating. For context, LeBron James is the highest rated player in the game at 98, Giannis Antetokounmpo is 97, and James Harden is 96. The list of revealed players with a higher rating than Doncic is very short. That is cool!

For what it’s worth, I am a very lapsed 2k player. I used to play the game religiously every year, but petered off sometime around NBA 2k15. I just got tired of the gross monetization that swept through every part of the game and the gameplay started to feel a little chunky as the development focused on hyper-realism. I will admit though, that it’s absolutely wild to see. I could only find Dirk Nowitzki’s 2k rating history going back to NBA 2k14, but I don’t know if Dirk was ever rated this high. He was a monster in NBA Live 2004 I can tell you that much. Either way, if he was, it’s weird to see a Dallas Maverick player get this kind of recognition, since we’ve been so used to Nowitzki being so modest in terms of off-court pizzazz. Luka Doncic is popular, something I’m still grappling with.
