The Mavericks fell in overtime against the Minnesota Timbersolves, 129-127. This was something you likely already knew, but here’s the story if you don’t.
In what was mainly a story of two games in one, there were plenty of numbers to focus on. But since it’s really just a pre-season game with no immediate meaning, here are some bigger picture numbers to consider relative to the upcoming season.
Luka Doncic had two technical fouls in three games
With all due respect to the leading man in Dallas, but Luka needs to get it together. His constant chatter and whining ro referees bled over into what they deemed disrespect in the final preseason game where he picked up his second technical foul.
That’s just not needed. He should tighten the emotion up, leave the complaining to coach Rick Carlisle and the front office, and try getting back on defense once in a while.
72 points for the starters in just 27 minutes
This is cheating a bit, since Dwight Powell got subbed out for Maxi Kleber to end the second quarter, but the other four players spent all their time together and poured in 64 points together. These gentlemen can put the ball in the basket as evidenced by their combined 11 for 22 from three point range. And this included Doncic going 0-6 from the field.
Five days off
The Mavericks have five days before they embark on a 72 game journey in 146 days. It’s the longest rest Dallas has until All-Star break. It’s going to be a long, chaotic, and hopefully awesome season. Y’all should get some rest too.
