J.J. Barea tells stories about Dirk Nowitzki, Luka Doncic, the 2011 Finals and more

The Old Man and the Three podcast is good

On today’s episode of Old Man and the Three, New Orleans Pelicans guard JJ Redick has on former Maverick J.J. Barea to discuss just about anything under the sun in terms of basketball and his career.

The fifty minute interview results in Barea telling some incredible stories, like his path from Puerto Rico to the NBA. He shares the story of how he first got minutes under Dallas coach Rick Carlisle (he literally walked in to Carlisle’s office and asked for a shot). Redick and Barea discuss the high pick and roll (or pop) with Dirk Nowitzki and how Dirk was the master of the illegal screen. Barea shares some firey opinions on current and former NBA players, like John Wall and Ray Allen. Barea talks about Tyson Chandler’s free agency and him not coming back to Dallas. There’s Scott Foster trash talk. Heck, Barea even gets into how much Dirk Nowitzki couldn’t stand Lebron James and Dwyane Wade. There’s even some discussion of Luka Doncic and how much he can still grow as a player.

The episode had me extremely nostalgic for Barea and considering how often I’ve written that I wanted Dallas to move on from him, this is saying something.

Like I said, it’s just about anything you could ask for in terms of tea time with Barea. The whole thing is in the link above and can be found in any major podcast feed stream and here is the YouTube video as well.
