It goes without saying that Luka Doncic is the most accomplished European player to ever enter the NBA. Now, he has another honor bestowed upon him. The Turkish Airlines EuroLeague named the 21-year-old Slovenian star as a member of the 2010-20 EuroLeague All-Decade team.
What’s remarkable about this honor is that Doncic achieved in after spending just three seasons in the league as a professional with Real Madrid. In his final season overseas before declaring for the NBA Draft, Doncic averaged 16 points, 4.85 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in 33 EuroLeague games. He was just 18 years old.
That season, he won EuroLeague Rising Star honors, made the All-EuroLeague First Team, awarded the EuroLeague Final Four MVP, and named the EuroLeague MVP. Oh, and he helped Real Madrid win the championship that season as well. Just an average year for a teenager.
The Dallas Mavericks knew what they were doing when they made a draft night trade to land Doncic in 2018. During his time in the NBA, he’s met or exceeded all expectations—winning Rookie of the Year and making the All-Star Team in his second season. It’s hard to think that anyone could have imagined the degree of skill and talent Doncic would come to display when he made his EuroLeague debut at age 16.
They don’t call him ‘Wonderboy’ for nothing. He’s been wowing crowds for the more than half a decade. Now, the soft-spoken Doncic has yet another accolade under his belt in his short but storied career.
