The month of June has been slow but steady in terms of NBA news, with information leaking bit by bit as the league attempts to finish the season in Disney World later this summer. For the Mavericks though, anything related directly to basketball has been nonexistent.
The main question revolves around the return of both overseas stars in Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis. Doncic went dark on social media the past two months after he left the country against the NBA’s advice. He made inadvertent news two weeks ago with some mistranslated reports about his physical readiness, which were refuted by his trainer in an interview with the Athletic’s Tim Cato. Porzingis has posted numerous clips to Instagram from Latvia during his time at home.
Getting back to the United States is a known challenge for any player having left the country. With the season reportedly starting July 31st, teams have a limited period of time to get players back and go through the advised quarantine time before joining other players for team based activities.
Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News shared this photo from the Instagram story of Porzingis, which appears to be from Saturday:
But where is Luka Doncic? According to Ekipa24.si, billed as Slovenia’s only daily sports newspaper, Doncic arrived in Dallas yesterday after taking a charter flight. This fits the needed timeline for Doncic to join his teammates by early next month for an abridged training camp. Doncic’s whereabouts will likely get confirmed at some point this week by local Dallas media.
Until then, keep your eyes on social media for clues as to what both Doncic and Porzingis are up to as we wait for basketball to return.
