A few weeks ago, I asked Dallas Mavericks super fan @PandaHank41 to join our staff. If you’re unfamiliar, he creates and publishes some incredible video content on the Dallas Mavericks from yesteryear. Today he published a throwback look at a January 2006 game against the Denver Nuggets where Dirk Nowitzki went off for 27 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and a whopping seven blocks.

Considering some of the terrible basketball we’ve been subjected to the last three games, watching Dirk and the 2005-2006 Mavericks beat the Nuggets in overtime (box score here) is a tonic I didn’t know I needed. There’s also those very bad uniforms the Mavericks went with for a significant stretch as well as a litany of Dallas players I hadn’t thought of in years (Erick Dampier!)
It gets discussed often, but it’s something else to see just how well Dirk Nowitzki used to move. He played for such a long time and had such a crazy career arc that we really only see high definition highlights of Dirk after he’d started to fade in a significant way.
Again, subscribe to Hanks channel! And remember, the Mavericks we’ve been watching lately are going to bounce back.
