This season we’re also going to be looking at betting lines on Dallas games if they look interesting. Let’s jump right into things!
Utah Jazz at Dallas Mavericks (-3.5)
The Jazz are one of the older teams in the league and have already listed Rudy Gobert, Joe Ingles, and Bojan Bogdanovic as out for tonight’s preseason game against the Mavericks. Mike Conley and Donovan Mitchell played in the Jazz’s preseason opener and it’s possible both play limited minutes or are held out for rest. For the Mavericks, the only rotational players listed as OUT are Dorian Finney-Smith and Dwight Powell. Unlike the Jazz, the Mavericks are installing new schemes on both sides of the ball and may actually use the preseason as a way to build on-court chemistry.
THE PICK- Mavericks -3.5
Over/Under – 217.5
The case for the over - nine of 13 preseasons game thus far have gone over 218 points. In terms of defense, the preseason is a step above pick-up games in terms of effort on that end. If you’re wagering on a preseason game, you’re either a degenerate or looking to add an element of fun to an otherwise meaningless game. My advice, never bet the under on a game you plan on watching. It’s excruciating.
The case for the under - The Jazz mustered a mere 85 points in their preseason opener. If Mitchell and Conley are limited, the Jazz will struggle to put the ball in the basket. Then again, if there’s a coach capable of gifting the other team points due to a terrible defensive scheme, it’s Jason Kidd.
THE PICK- OVER 217.5 points
DFS Value of the Night- At $9,200, Luka is second only to Steph Curry in terms of price. If you’re looking to get him into your lineup, you will have to pair him with a couple of value players in order to help offset the cost. Jalen Brunson is currently listed at $5,800. For comparison, Trey Burke is listed at $5,900. With Dwight Powell out, Willie Cauley-Stein might be worth a dart throw at $4,900. The combination of Luka, Brunson, and WCS averages out to $6,600 and would allow you to fill out the rest of your lineup with above-average players.
