WHAT: Two teams with high preseason expectations trying to right the ship after disastrous starts.
WHERE: American Airlines Center, Dallas, TX
WHEN: 6:30 p.m. CT
HOW: Fox Sports Southwest or ESPN. Unlike Wednesday’s game against Atlanta, the game will not be blacked out on ESPN in the DFW area.
THE STORY: Both of these teams had big plans before the season. The Mavericks wanted to make a deep run after getting back to the playoffs and the Pelicans wanted to ride a full season of Zion Williamson back to relevancy and a playoff berth. Neither of those two things looked great after the starts both teams had.
Dallas was mostly inflicted by a COVID-19 outbreak and some lousy shooting. New Orleans hasn’t found consistent play under new coach Stan Van Gundy while also trying to figure out how best to use Williamson. Just as they both started poorly, both have fought their way back — the Pelicans at 11-13, the Mavericks at 12-14.
This is a big game for both teams to try to keep up their winning ways. For Dallas, it’s another win that is imperative as its currently in the softest part of their first half schedule. This is the Mavericks fifth home game in a row and third straight against a team under .500. For the Mavericks to make a run back into contention, they had to play very well on this homestand. They’ve gotten the wins they’ve needed so far, despite some glaring holes on the defensive end.
Zion vs. Luka. Should be fun! Keep is courteous in the comments.
