Do you ever get an idea that won’t leave your head?
As many of you know, I’m father to a four year old boy and as such, we limit screen time but we still have movie night every week as a reward for a week well finished. That means I’m continually bombarded with movies with songs and ideas about friendship and team work and working through problems.
So when all of the rumors about Kristaps Porzingis and trade rumors started flying this week, I went through some variation of the five stages of grief. Even though I’ve written, tweeted, and talked about how the Mavericks would be smart to trade him, I didn’t think it would be a thing which actually happened. So when I made it to bargaining in the five stages, my broken dad brain went to one of the songs from one of the dozens of children’s movies I’ve watched the last several years: Everything’s Not Awesome, from the Lego Movie 2 sound track.
Then I told our staff what was in my head. And Ryan Mainville made it come to life:
Did you watch the whole thing? Finish it. Despite my grumpy nature, I very much want the Mavericks to win. And Porzingis is a huge part of that.
Whatever is going on with him and the Mavericks, I hope it works itself out. It’s a long NBA season and things aren’t always awesome. There’s always a way back. The Mavericks and Porzingis can find it.
