GAME THREAD: Dallas Mavericks at Oklahoma City Thunder

New, comments

Dallas tries to get another win against OKC without their stars.

NBA: Oklahoma City Thunder at Dallas Mavericks Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

WHO: Dallas Mavericks at Oklahoma City Thunder

WHAT: The Mavericks once again trying to sneak in some rest for their stars against a bad team.

WHERE: Chesapeake Energy Arena, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

WHEN: 8 p.m. CST

HOW: Fox Sports Southwest or NBA League Pass

THE STORY: The last time the Mavericks played the Thunder, it was their last game before the All-Star break. They rested Luka Doncic, trying to sneak a game of rest in against a crappy team, which the Thunder currently are (despite a young roster that plays hard as hell). It seems Dallas liked that whole winning a game while Luka Doncic sits on the sideline, so they’re trying it again. Except this time, in stereo.

Yes, Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis are both sitting out. They are also both perfectly able to play, in case you want to argue about it. Rick Carlisle said it himself before the game, this is a planned rest day for both of them.

It is slightly annoying that the Mavericks, who basically had two All-Star breaks within the past four weeks thanks to the actual All-Star break and eight straight days off due to postponements caused by the brutal winter storm in Texas, are resting their two stars the second game after the All-Star break. It’s extra annoying that this is a relatively “easy” back to back, with the Thunder being bad and the travel from Dallas to OKC being so short you probably can’t even open your bag of peanuts before the plane is about to land. Obviously the Mavericks can win this game without those two (we think), but it’d be nice to bank an easy win, before the schedule gets much harder in the next week.

Oh well. We’ll see what happens. Please behave yourselves.
