WHAT: The Mavericks try to extend their winning streak to five games, while busting the league-leading Jazz’s nine-game win streak.
WHERE: American Airlines Center, Dallas, TX
WHEN: 7:00 p.m. CST
HOW: Bally Sports or whatever the new network is called
THE STORY: The Mavericks will play a scorching hot Utah Jazz that is first in both offensive and defensive rating over the last two weeks (eight games). Donovan Mitchell, who did not play in either of the Jazz’s two blowout victories over the Mavericks earlier this year, will be in action. In those games, the COVID stretch had just ended, and the returning players (Finney-Smith, Richardson, Powell, etc.) looked like they needed significant conditioning before they’d be playing at 100%.
Kristaps Porzingis will miss his second straight game with an injured right wrist, although the stated reason for missing last game was knee injury recovery. Porzingis has significantly improved on the defensive end in the last several weeks, and his presence alone makes the Mavericks an elite offense.
This game will be another one of those “litmus-test” type games for the Mavericks, who have begun to show what they are capable of, even though they currently aren’t considered at the caliber of the Western Conference contenders.
