Who oddsmakers think will be the next head coach of the Dallas Mavericks

There are a lot of familiar names on the list.

Turmoil rocked the Dallas Mavericks’ front office this week. The team and long-time general manager and president of basketball operations decided to mutually part ways. Then, perhaps not even 24 hours later, Rick Carlisle, who has been with the organization since 2008, informed the franchise that he would not be returning next season.

It’s been a whirlwind of events the likes of which have not been seen since Mark Cuban bought the team in 2000. He has a lot of big decisions ahead of him and bookmakers are taking note. Cuban will need to bring in a GM before any coaching decisions are made — or he should, at least — but there is already a long list of candidates that oddsmakers are wagering on.

According to BetOnline, there are 12 likely candidates for Dallas’ top coaching job. Whether any of them eventually land the role is anyone’s guess, but there are some familiar names on the list and the Mavericks—and you—might want to take a gamble and pick one of them.

  • Jamahl Mosley — 10/11
  • Becky Hammon — 6/1
  • Terry Stotts — 6/1
  • Jason Kidd — 8/1
  • Ime Udoka — 9/1
  • John Calipari — 9/1
  • Mike D’Antoni — 9/1
  • Pablo Laso — 12/1
  • Chauncey Billups — 14/1
  • Sam Cassell — 14/1
  • Mike Budenholzer — 16/1
  • Dirk Nowitzki — 66/1

Nowitzki, for what it’s worth, is now part of the organization as a special advisor. Whether that improves his odds to be the next head coach according to the bookmakers is anyone’s guess at this point.

As for former head coach Rick Carlisle, he’s linked to a number of teams. Here are the odds of where he might end up.
