The Dallas Mavericks had their introductory press conference with new coach Jason Kidd and new general manager Nico Harrison Thursday morning at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. If you missed it, you can watch the archive stream here.
The press conference starts around the 9:20 mark of the embedded video.
Nothing too enlightening from the press conference. Harrison's answers revolved around what we already knew — he’s great at building and keeping relationships. Kidd vaguely mentioned that he’s learned from his previous coaching stops and wants the Mavericks to be a better defensive team. Mark Cuban passionately defended Kristaps Porzingis and said this will be a big offseason for him.
In terms of responding to the two bigger stories this summer — the Mavericks front office internal strife and Kidd’s prior history as a convicted domestic abuser clashing with the Mavericks very recent sexual harassment scandal — nothing much was gained. Only one question was asked about the power struggle within the front office and Cuban completely non-answered it. Only a a couple of reporters asked about Kidd’s past and both Kidd and Mavericks CEO Cynthia Marshall dodged around the questions.
Otherwise, pretty standard stuff. Check back on the site later as we’ll have more from this press conference.
Editor Doyle Rader attended the press conference Thursday and we talk about it here. Search Mavs Moneyball Podcast on your favorite app to find the episode, click the link, or press play in the player below.
