The forgotten mobility of prime Dirk Nowitzki

The last few seasons of Dirk Nowitzki’s career seem to carry a lot of stock for some basketball fans. As injuries and aging set in, Nowitzki lost quite a bit of the mobility that he had earlier in his career. This is no new phenomenon in the NBA, but it seemed especially easy for some fans to forget the agility young Dirk once had.

Nowitzki wasn’t someone that staked his claim on having the highest vertical jump, the quickest lateral speed, or the fastest 40-yard dash in the league. When you’re seven feet tall and spend six seasons playing over the age of 35, it’s going to be difficult to make a living by claiming that kind of athleticism.
