WHO: Dallas Mavericks vs. Sacramento Kings
WHAT: Dallas looks for its first win at Summer League.
WHERE: Cox Pavilion, Thomas & Mack Center, Las Vegas, NV
WHEN: 2 p.m. CT
HOW: ESPN2 or Mavs.com
THE STORY: The Mavericks remain winless in the desert after suffering another devastating overtime defeat on Saturday. After a Nate Hinton corner three gave Dallas a 75-71 lead over the Denver Nuggets with just under three minutes to play in the fourth quarter, the Mavericks saw their lead dwindle and vanish. With seconds remaining, however, Carlik Jones hit a couple of clutch free throws to send the game to overtime at 81-all.
While the Mavericks would eventually lose, 89-85—thanks to even more scoring by Denver’s Nah’Shon Hyland—this was one of the more complete games the team has played in Vegas. Four players scored in double-figures, led by newly minted two-way player Eugene Omoruyi’s 20 points. Hinton added 19, Jones pitched in 17, and Dallas-area native Feron Hunt dazzled with several highlight dunks on his way to 13 points.
Dallas also moved the ball well, totaling 21 assists. Defensively, they forced the Nuggets into 24 turnovers. However, the Mavericks couldn’t keep up on the boards. Denver out-rebounded them by 15, 46-31.
On the injury front, Tyrell Terry didn’t play Saturday. He left the Mavericks’ second Summer League game with a groin injury and did not return. The team hasn’t officially indicated whether he will play or not today, but don’t be surprised if he sits out again.
