Slovenia defeated Germany 94-70 in a battle of the countries responsible for the Dallas Mavericks past and future success. Luka Doncic led Slovenia to the win with a near triple double of 20 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. Luka shot 8 of 18 from the floor, 2 of 7 from three and 2 of 2 from the free throw line.
Zoran Dragic led all scorers with 27 points on 11 of 13 shooting and 5 of 7 three point shooting. Mike Tobey chipped in his customary double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Maodo Lo led the Germany in scoring with 11 while Niels Giffey chipped in 10. No one else scored in double figures for Germany as they struggled quite a bit to score. Germany was just 12 of 38(32 percent) from three as a team.
Slovenia continued to dominate the boards as Tobey and Luka are a difficult pair to keep off the boards, especially when backed with manic effort from their smaller teammates. They also shot 15 of 35(43 percent) from three.
Slovenia got off to a quick start and took an early lead finishing the first quarter up 25 - 14. Germany went on an 18 - 6 run to take the lead briefly in the second quarter. Slovenia regained the lead on a Tobey jumper on the next possession and never trailed again.
The game was quite physical on both sides though each team shot just 13 free throws a piece. With the win, Slovenia moves through to the semifinals where they will play the winner of France vs Italy.
If Slovenia wins that game, they will be in to the finals guaranteed either a Gold or Silver medal. If they lose, the will play in the Bronze medal game and need to win in order to medal. Either way, Slovenia needs one more win to guarantee a medal.
