Finally, some news in moving the Mavericks forward. After days of free agency speculation and noise, Marc Stein breaks some news about something we’ve all been waiting for:
Mavs special advisor Dirk Nowitzki will join Mark Cuban, Jason Kidd, Nico Harrison and Michael Finley in Slovenia next week for Dallas to formally present Luka Doncic his five-year supermax extension in excess of $200 million, sources say.

First, go sign up for Stein’s substack. It’s great. Second, this is good news. There’s been enough idle speculation about whether or not Luka Doncic would sign his supermax extension, but that’s all largely been air. He’s going to sign this extension, then if he has a problem with the Mavericks down the road, then Doncic is going to flex his player power.
Whether or not Doncic signs the five year extension or if he and his team want something different (after all, there’s a new television contract on the horizon) will be worth watching, but for now and the next several years Dallas fans can take a deep breath and know Luka Doncic will be a Dallas Maverick.
Now, let’s hope the front office can finish this free agency period with some sort of move that bolsters our confidence heading into the time between regular season and playoffs.
