Mavericks guards Luka Doncic and Dante Exum are out for Friday night’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies. Additionally, guard Tim Hardaway Jr. is questionable with back spasms.
For Doncic and Exum, both are listed out for personal reasons. NBA insider Marc Stein first reported the Doncic news, as the official injury report then updated to show both Doncic and Exum as out. There have been no updates so far from the team as the specific reason as to why both are out, but since it is listed as personal reasons, we hope everything is OK off the court.
Hardaway is listed as questionable, but there hasn’t been any reports in recent practices about him missing this game. If all three were to sit out, that would mean more minutes for Jaden Hardy and Seth Curry, along with Kyrie Irving running the show.
If there was a game for the Mavericks to be short-handed, this is a good one — the Grizzlies are in free fall, sitting at 4-13 with injuries mounting. Star guard Ja Morant is still serving his 25-game suspension to start the season and starting guard Marcus Smart is out with an injury. This is on top of the long-standing absences of Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke. Dallas already took care of a depleted Grizzlies team about a month ago, winning 125-110. In that game the Mavericks were missing Irving and didn’t skip a beat. They’ll need a similar effort without Doncic.
