Because OF COURSE Kawhi Leonard would make his season debut against the Mavs.

NBA: Dallas Mavericks at San Antonio Spurs Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

WHO: Dallas Mavericks vs. San Antonio Spurs

WHAT: No Dennis Smith Jr. or Seth Curry for the Mavs. But the Spurs get Kawhi Leonard back, so yay!

WHERE: American Airlines Center, Dallas, TX

WHEN: 7:30 p.m. CT

HOW: Fox Sports Southwest or NBA League Pass

THE STORY: Before this season started, we all knew, deep down, that both Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard would end up making their season debuts against the Mavs, right? That’s just how this stuff goes, unfortunately. Luckily for us, though, we have defensive stalwart, Antonius Cleveland to throw at Leonard in this game. Cleveland was a stud against Andrew Wiggins in the Mavs’ close loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves the other night, and although it’d be unfair to expect the same kind of performance tonight, we can hope for the best possible outcome.

The Mavs have fought hard against a short-handed Spurs team twice already this season and lost both of those games. Now, it’s the Mavs that are more short-handed with Dennis Smith Jr. missing his third consecutive game due to a hip strain. Hang in there, MFFL, because both Smith Jr. and Seth Curry should be returning to action soon. In the meantime, let’s go shock the world tonight.
